Engaging the Board in Fundraising
It is commonly assumed that boards should be involved in fundraising. But should they? And if so, how can it be done well? Join us for this Extended AFP Seminar, as our guest presenter, Brent A. Hafele, M.A., will explore the implications of board involvement in fundraising and how to practically do it. As a former development director and executive director, Brent has lived these questions out first hand. In this session, Brent will encourage and empower participants to identify next steps for building their board member's confidence and effectiveness in fundraising.
Presenter: Brent A. Hafele, M.A., Vice President of Client Services, Dickerson, Bakker & Associates
Brent provides counsel on a variety of nonprofit leadership areas, including capital campaigns, general fundraising, strategic planning, nonprofit leadership, board/governance relations, and vibrancy planning.
He learned the ins and outs of nonprofit operations by serving as executive director at the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic and as development director at Hope Gospel Mission, where he successfully led a capital campaign to open a women’s shelter. In 2008, Brent founded a successful consulting practice, NewDay Nonprofit Solutions. As a consultant, Brent has challenged and empowered a wide range of Christian and secular agencies throughout North America. Brent joins Dickerson, Bakker & Associates with the merger of NewDay Nonprofit Solutions into Dickerson, Bakker & Associates effective January 2016.
In addition to his consulting work, Brent is a popular speaker at national, regional, and local conferences on nonprofit leadership and fundraising. Brent is also a faculty member of the University of St. Thomas’s Fundraising Certificate Series, where he teaches courses on capital campaigns and nonprofit marketing. He earned an M.A. in Philanthropy and Development from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Brent resides in Eau Claire, WI, with his wife Jennifer, sons Evan and Micah, and daughter Rachel.
