AFP Greater Madison Chapter Luncheon

Building a Board of Donors and Doers

Have you wondered how some volunteer leaders seem to give of themselves, both as a “donor and a doer,” time after time? How does this happen? What makes these volunteers rise above others? Learn from three volunteers how their organizations balance their recruitment of “donors and doers,” and how these volunteers evolved within the organization. Discover the roles board and committee members play in planning and implementing their organization’s various fundraising programs and events.

About our panelists:

Thomas Dott
Thomas Dott is Senior Vice President of Commercial Banking with Associated Bank.  He has served on the board of directors of the Henry Vilas Park Zoological Society for approximately ten years. Thomas is in the second year of a two-year term as board president; in this capacity he also serves on the Zoo Commission.

Beth Norman
Beth Norman is a financial advisor at RBC Wealth Management, and has been with the firm for more than 15 years. Beth’s involvement with the YWCA Madison began seven years ago in planning their largest annual fundraiser- The Circle of Women event. Since then she has broadened her volunteer work for the YWCA, and is currently into her third year as a board member. She is also on the HR, Advocacy and Board Development committees, and chairs the Resident Advocacy committee.

Richard J. Phelps
Rick Phelps is Regional Senior Vice President for M&I/BMO Harris Bank. He focuses much of his attention on civic and community building efforts. After nine years as Dane County Executive he retired in 1998 and has been in and out of Madison with the bank as his base. After 9/11, the New York City Partnership and Chamber of Commerce recruited Rick to direct their government affairs program as part of the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site and NYC economy. He was recruited to the Aldo Leopold Nature Center board about 15 years ago.

Scheduling Note

On behalf of the AFP Greater Madison leadership we regret that the September program luncheon is scheduled on Rosh Hashanah. We will work to make sure future programs do not conflict with important holidays and holy days.
