Re-Connecting with Nature workshop: June 3 Liverpool

The Re-Connecting with Nature workshop is a hands-on day of adventure to improve your ability to lead and share an appreciation and understanding of nature with children and youth. The workshop is suitable for youth group leaders, recreation and camp staff, teachers, early childhood educators, parents and concerned citizens. The aim is to increase leadership capacity in Nova Scotia in order to re-connect children and youth with nature. Participants will improve their leadership skills, gain practical activity ideas, network with like-minded folks and have fun in nature. Most of the workshop will take place outside. Re-Connecting with Nature is offered through Hike Nova Scotia in partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage with support from Acadia University.

Workshop Goals

Participants in this workshop will have the opportunity to…

… understand the value and key concepts in reconnecting children and youth with nature.

… improve their skills in facilitating experiences in nature with others.
… identify valuable ideas, activities and resources for this work.
… have fun and get to know other resourceful people.
… strengthen networks of people committed to reconnecting others with nature.

The leadership team includes one of Dr. Alan Warner, George Taylor and Terri Peace (who have been designing and leading award-winning environmental education programs for all ages for more than 30 years) along with a suite of new instructors.

Cancellation Policy

The Re-Connecting with Nature workshop is subsidized for participants, so we need to fill the workshop in order to break even. As such, our cancellation policy requires three full days’ notice by email or phone in order to reimburse anyone who wishes to cancel their registration (that is, by 5 pm May 30). This allows time to recruit someone else to fill the spot.

If the workshop organizers must cancel the workshop due to unforeseen circumstance, it will be cancelled the morning of the day before the workshop. Participants will be contacted by email and all participants will be reimbursed their registration fees. They will then be contacted regarding a new date for the workshop.
