Wine lovers unite! Join Winetasters today!

Winetasters is a group of people who love wine and enjoy the opportunity to taste older wines and to compare various styles of wines from around the world.  Every tasting and dinner gives you the opportunity to come together with fellow wine enthusiasts to share the passion.

Chateau Lafite, Philip Togni Cabernet Sauvignon, Old Ports, and Beaucastel were poured this past year.  In 2016/17 1990 1st and 2nd growth Bordeaux, Single vineyard Barolos, Two Hands Shiraz, and wines from Spain are some of the wines you will be served.  Winetasters provides members with benefits such as:

  1. Unrivalled tastings as we keep our own cellar which not only gives us a unique selection of wines to support our tastings, but also lets us offer tastings at very reasonable cost as we do not have to bear the burden of current market prices.
  2. Networking opportunities with fellow wine enthusiasts and collectors who want to share and compare experiences with other members.
  3. Education as most tastings are lead by wine professionals with specialized knowledge of the wines included in the tasting.  They share their personal knowledge as background to the tastings and then discuss their own notes on the blind tasting itself.
  4. Other opportunities for enjoying wines are also available to members.  Winetasters plans dinners where interesting menus are paired with wines.

Our tasting events are held on the second Wednesday of each month from September through June.  Most events are in the North York Memorial Community Hall, 5110 Yonge Street (under the library).  We recommend that tasters take the TTC to the North York Centre subway stop.  If you insist on driving there is parking under the building.   Our December event will be downtown at the Design Exchange.

We look forward to seeing you at the Winetaster events this year!

Holiday Event at the Design Exchange – December 14, 2016

Vintage Ports: 1994 – February 8, 2017
As a contrast to our recent tastings of old Vintage Ports from the 1960’s and 1970’s, this will give tasters a chance to try some of the best younger Ports from the excellent 1994 vintage, to enjoy them in their relative youth and assess where they are on the maturity spectrum.

Sauvignon Blanc from around the World – May 10, 2017
A comparison of styles of another popular grape type, with both old world and new world examples, including the grassy, herby wines of New Zealand, the smoky Fumés and Sancerres of the upper Loire Valley and, for a little contrast, the effect of blending with Semillon, which of course, produces the legendary white Bordeaux.

2007 Two Hands Australian Shiraz – June 14, 2017
A tasting from the wide array of styles and single-vineyard bottlings of 2007 premium Shiraz from Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and other well-known appellations from this Australian  producer who, while relatively new, is already one of the country’s most successful and celebrated.
