Compassion Fatigue/Pet Loss Support

Learn what compassion fatigue is, how it affects you, and what you can do about it. This discussion covers self-care techniques, how to leave work "at work" , and create support within your veterinary hospital.

Pet loss will also be covered including communication skills, front office sensitivity, and becoming a resource for pet parents. You will also learn how to recognize a client with more complicated grief. 

Approved by NJVMA for 1.5 hours CE

 
Debra Bjorling

A native of New Jersey, Debra spent years working as a Practice Manager for area medical doctors prior to joining the pet aftercare profession. A member of the IAOPCC, Deb has served on its Board of Directors for many years.  She is also an active member of her community serving on the Board of the Pet Cremation Council as well as a member of the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association.

Debra is currently on the Board of Directors of the Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement and is a frequent speaker at veterinary conferences and veterinary technician meetings. She was instrumental in developing the IAOPCC’s Pet Bereavement Specialist Program.

Ann Rooney
Certified Pet Loss Bereavement Counselor, NorthStar VETS

Ann has worked in the veterinary field for over 16 years helping pets and their families. She has trained and managed veterinary staff as well as coached pet owners on important decisions concerning their pets. Through working with veterinarians, connecting with various pet cemeteries, and going through her own pet loss, Rooney has committed her career to help pet owners cope with their loss and provide them with the tools to work through their grief. Certified by the Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement, she is available to help clients who need help navigating the difficult part of loving a pet.
