Social Vetworking on the Road for Veterinarians:
Diagnosis and Management of Acute Kidney Injury in Dogs and Cats
This lecture will go over kidney physiology as it pertains to the acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease, emerging biomarkers and how they can be useful to us, the stages of an acute kidney injury and how to identify them, as well as causes and prognosis. Also included is a review of the appropriate diagnostic tests for work up after the causes for an acute kidney injury are known. In addition, a presentation related to a new outlook on fluid therapy in cases of acute kidney injury will be shared, as more fluids may not be better for the patient. Finally, attendees will have greater awareness of acute kidney injury in the early stages to prevent the use of potentially nephrotoxic drugs and treatments.
