We are super excited that this month our host is TAPS Fish House & Brewery! We absolutely LOVE their beers!

Brewmaster Victor Novak will be tasting you on 6 of their amazing craft beers:

Imperial Balinese Stout (Russian coffee stout)

Brewmaster Victor Novak has been brewmaster at TAPS Fish House & Brewery in Brea since the restaurant opened in 1999, and the new Corona location since November 2007.  While attending University of California at Berkeley, two revelations changed his career course:  his first taste of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and a dining experience at Chez Panisse.  

Inspired to learn the craft of fine beer making, Novak, a native of Southern California, moved back east and began working at the award-winning Dock Street Brewery in Philadelphia. There he apprenticed under a well-respected English Brewmaster who had served as Head Brewmaster of the Grand Metropolitan Breweries in London.  Novak spent four years at Dock Street learning the European methods of brewing.  He also traveled to Europe five times, researching the unique beer styles and crafting techniques in Britain, Belgium, Germany and the Czech Republic.  He has been brewing for over eleven years.

Novak’s philosophy is to brew classic styles of European ales and lagers in a traditional manner, using the finest ingredients possible. All hops and malt for TAPS’ beers are imported from England and Germany.  Other components contributing to the quality of TAPS’ beers are Novak’s proprietary strains of yeast, reverse osmosis and the chemistry used to tailor the water to each specific brewing region.  The end product speaks for itself:  In eight years, TAPS’ beers have won 30 awards at the local, state, national and international level, 13 of them gold. 

Please note: 

Starting this month, we are asking for a $5 fee to attend the tastings. It covers our staffing costs, as well as the cost of the products and supplies neccessary to hold these events.

Annual memberships are available at the bar during tasting nights. The $5 fee paid via this site may be applied to the memership cost. For further information, please talk to me or one of the bartenders at the event. The fees are non-refundable, as we are limiting attendace to 50 people every month. Once the spots are filled, the list closes.
