4hr HOT TOPICS & MYTHS IN APPRAISER LIABILITY

Instructed by PETER CHRISTENSEN, General Counsel for LIA Administrators & Insurance Services

Louisiana State Approved for 4 hours of CE Credit. Members and NON-Members are Welcome.

This four hour seminar will be presented by Peter Christensen. Mr. Christensen, an attorney, is the general counsel for LIA Administrators & Insurance Services in Santa Barbara, California. LIA provides E&O insurance in all 50 states covering more than 18,000 appraisers.  Using actual lawsuits against appraisers as examples, Mr. Christensen will provide an overview of current liability trends and will dispel common myths.  These are the types of questions answered by the seminar:  Who sues appraisers? What do they sue for?  How does the concept of intended user relate to an appraiser’s liability? What are the relevant statutes of limitation?  Can you sue the review appraiser who did a horrible review of your appraisal?  What do appraisers who do expert or tax work get sued for?  Am I protected from liability by incorporating my firm or using an LLC?

Appraisers who are insured by LIA’s E&O program (endorsed by the Appraisal Institute), or who purchase E&O from LIA within a year after the seminar, become eligible for a one-time discount on their premium of $50 for a $500K or $1m per claim policy or $25 for a $300k per claim policy per appraiser by completing the seminar. This discount may be applied toward any payment due after the seminar.  Only one discount per insured appraiser can be applied per year.
