Storm Shelter Design for Educational Facilities

Presented by: Charles Hanes, P.E., of Structural Design Group

The objective of this course, worth 1 AIA LU/HSW, is to discuss the 2015 version of the International Building Code (IBC), which requires that group E occupancies be designed to include storm shelter areas. This version of the IBC is being adopted in many of Kentucky’s surrounding states and it is likely a matter of time before it is also adopted in Kentucky. This program will educate attendees on specific requirements for these shelters and will provide insight into best practices for their design and construction – through both the presentation of technical information and the review of existing case studies.

Cost:  FREE* - Lunch and Drinks are provided for AIA members and NCARB AXP participants.
