Creating an Author Platform That's Made to Last

Building an author platform can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be a chore. Done right it can even be fun and lead to great collaborations with other authors. But the only successful platform is a sustainable one, and each of us needs to find that sweet spot between what is optimal and what is doable.

This morning’s presentation starts from the ground up, with a map of how to build a platform that leaves room for writing and reflects your deeper values and purpose. You will learn four big marketing lessons for authors, and use visual thinking to create a platform strategy that you can stick with for the long haul.

Take a break for lunch and come back for our Workshop where Anne will do a deep dive into the mechanics of building your author platform.

Cost for the meeting: $10 for guests, free to members

Cost for meeting + the afternoon workshop: $50 for non-members, $25 for BAIPA members

Deep Dive Afternoon Workshop (1-4pm)

In the afternoon workshop we will take a deep dive into the mechanics of platform and community-building for authors. Get ready to explore the three types of engagement needed to scale your platform and sell books, and learn more about the many ways to find your readers online.

During this author intensive, learn how to extend your platform with:

  • Best practices for Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Pinterest
  • Connecting all the parts of your online platform, and maximizing what works
  • New author/reader communities like Wattpad, RedLemona.de, Byliner, and more
  • Conversion tips, from email sign-ups to Ganxy showcases and Goodreads giveaways

As independent authors, our power lies in sharing skills and experience with other authors. Come prepared to learn a lot, be inspired, and take part in a lively, enjoyable conversation!

The cost for the afternoon workshop is $25 for BAIPA members, $40 for non-members.
