Teachers in grades K-12. NEED’s energy curriculum is interdisciplinary. Science teachers are encouraged to invite Language Arts, Math and/or Social Studies teachers to attend.

9:00 a.m. Science of Energy
Participants will learn about the forms of energy and energy transformations while using resources in the NEED Science of Energy kit.
11:00 a.m. Sources of Energy - Energy Enigma
This cooperative learning activity accesses language arts and critical thinking skills as participants try to identify the ten sources of energy based on clues presented.
NOON LUNCH
12:45 p.m. Electricity Energy Flow and Electric Connections
Participants will demonstrate the generation of electricity while identifying energy transformations that occur during the generation process.
1:15 p.m. Coal in Kentucky
A multi-disciplinary unit that addresses the science behind coal and how it is used for energy and industry. Hands-on, critical thinking, and laboratory exercises expose secondary students to coal formation, coal mining, reclamation of lands, uses of coal, electricity generation, and the advantages and disadvantages of utilizing coal.
