8:00 a.m.               Registration & Continental Breakfast

Pick up curriculum materials and supplies and network during breakfast. NEED curriculum packets are sponsored for each teacher attending the workshop. Packets include Teachers Guides for teaching energy, Energy Infobooks (student readers) and more. 

8:30 a.m.               Welcome and Today’s Goals and Objectives

Meet your fellow participants. Review goals and objectives for the workshop and begin planning ways to use the NEED materials and training in your school. Play Oil and Gas Bingo! 

9:00 a.m.               The Science of Energy

Learn more about the forms of energy and energy transformations while exploring the stations of the Science of Energy kit. Shell’s sponsorship provides teachers a choice of a Science of Energy Kit or a Fossil Fuels to Products Kit. 

10:30 a.m.            Energy Expo

After learning about the Science of Energy, participants will begin studying the sources of energy, transportation fuels and energy efficiency in the Energy Expo. This activity allows for great connections of language arts to STEM.  

11:45 a.m.             Exploring Oil and Natural Gas

These lessons and activities help students understand the exploration, production and use of the nation’s oil and natural gas. Activities include: porosity, polymers, core sampling, hydraulic fracturing and more.  Shell’s sponsorship provides teachers a choice of a Science of Energy Kit or an Oil and Gas Kit.

12:15 p.m.            Lunch

12:45 p.m.            Exploring Oil and Natural Gas (con’t) and The Science of Racing

Students (and lots of adults) like things that go fast!   Check out these lessons designed for Shell Racing and Motorsports.   From Grand Prix to NASCAR, there’s a lot to learn about how fuels, power, and materials matter. 

1:45 p.m.              Peak Oil Activity

This lesson helps students understand the exploration, production and use of the nation’s oil and natural gas.

2:45 p.m.              Understanding Energy Efficiency – The Energy Conservation Web

This quick lesson allows participants to understand their home and school as a system and to better conserve energy resources.

3:00 p.m.              Hosting An Energy Literacy Fair at Your Schools

3:15 p.m.              Closing and Workshop Paperwork:  Substitute Reimbursement, Parking, and Materials

Complete Evaluations and Order Forms, receive certificates for professional development.

3:30 p.m.              Adjourn
