2018 California Energy Education Workshop - San Ramon, CA

  • Choice of NEED kit for the classroom
  • Curriculum aligned to California State Standards

TEACHER/STUDENT TEAM DETAILS:

  • Teams must consist of one teacher and two high school junior or senior students interested in energy or green energy careers
  • Schools interested in more than one team attending must contact Barry Scott at bscott@need.org for prior approval.

8:30 a.m.         Registration and Breakfast

Pick up materials and supplies. Continental breakfast will be served.

 9:00 a.m.         Welcome and Introductions

Review goals and objectives for the workshop. Complete a workshop pre-test. Meet your fellow participants and workshop sponsors by playing Energy Bingo!

 9:30 a.m.         Forms and Sources of Energy

Learn the basics of energy forms and transformations as a foundation for understanding how we generate and use a mix of energy sources to meet our needs.  

 10:00 a.m.       Hands-on Energy Kits and Activities

Test out 2 classroom STEM energy kits from NEED, wind energy, solar energy. Select your favorite to be shipped to your classroom courtesy of Pacific Gas and Electric.

 12:00 p.m.      Lunch with Industry Leaders

Enjoy an informal lunch with energy industry experts and teams from other schools.

 1:00 p.m.         Guided Tour of the Facility

Learn about the workforce training opportunities that are conducted at the San Ramon Conference Center PG&E training facility, visit classrooms, meet instructors

 1:45 p.m.         Advanced Technology Services Presentation

Meet the engineers who work every day on the cutting edge of technologies that bring clean reliable energy to our homes and businesses.  Smart homes, smart devices, energy storage and energy efficiency innovations are just a few of their areas of expertise.  A tour of their laboratories might be arranged!

 2:30 p.m.         Energy Education and Career Workforce Programs

Help your students get a leg up in the energy industry with green career and exploration programs, energy curriculum, hands-on training and more. We’ll take a look at web-based career exploration tools and training programs.

 2:50 p.m.         Wrap-Up

Take a workshop post-test. Complete your kit order and substitute reimbursement forms. Evaluate the program and make recommendations for future workshops and offerings.

 3:00 p.m.         Adjourn
