ABOUT THE NEED PROJECT
The NEED Project designs and delivers teacher-tested educational materials, evaluation techniques and tools, recognition of student achievement, and professional development for educators. NEED materials and training programs provide comprehensive, objective information about the scientific concepts of energy and the sources of energy – their use and their impact on the environment, the economy and society.

8:00 a.m. Welcome and Introduction to PEEP 2.0 program offerings
8:30 a.m. Brown Bag It
Experiment with hands-on energy transformation activities in a fun way, and develop challenges for students to solve.
9:30 a.m. Sources of Energy and the PA Energy and Electricity Picture
Learn about the nation’s energy resources as they are used to generate electricity. Compare U.S. consumption to that of the Commonwealth.
10:15 a.m. Energy Simulation Fun
This example of a classroom simulation will give participants insight into energy transformations in a nuclear power plant. Participants will also explore simulations and their benefits for teaching tough concepts.
11:00 a.m. Operation Innovation
Participants will explore energy challenges within the NEED energy-source kits. Each group will complete the challenge and re-tool the challenge with their students in mind, and photo/video document their work to create a sharable work sample of innovation for their students.
12:00 p.m. Audience Participation Lunch
Grab lunch and participate in a fun energy activity at the same time!
