The NEED Project designs and delivers teacher-tested educational materials, evaluation techniques and tools, recognition of student achievement, and professional development for educators. NEED materials and training programs provide comprehensive, objective information about the scientific concepts of energy and the sources of energy – their use and their impact on the environment, the economy and society.

8:30 a.m. Forms of Energy and Energy Transformations
Learn more about the forms of energy and energy transformations while experimenting with the Science of Energy kit.
10:00 a.m. Sources of Energy and the PA Energy and Electricity Picture
Learn about the nation’s energy resources as they are used to generate electricity and compare them to energy consumption in the Commonwealth.
10:45 a.m. Energy Simulation Fun
This example of a classroom simulation will give participants insight into energy sources and energy transformations as they relate to the natural gas industry. Participants will also explore simulations and their benefits for teaching tough concepts.
11:15 a.m. Fossil Fuels Fun
Learn about exploration, production, refining, chemical manufacturing, transportation, marketing, and uses of petroleum, natural gas, and their products in the industrial sector.
12:00 p.m. Lunch
12:45p.m. Renewable Energy Shuffle
Investigate hands-on renewable kit offerings by participating in stations and shuffling them up!
2:00 p.m. Innovation Introduction
Learn more about the PECO Innovation Challenge, Educational Energy Audits, and other program offerings!
