The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation launched its K-12 Solar Schools Program in 2006, and its K-12 Wind Schools Pilot in 2011 to introduce the future of energy technology to today’s students. To date, the Foundation’s programs have awarded grants to over 300 schools across Illinois to support the installation of small scale solar PV and wind systems. Although small, each system will become part of the school’s curriculum as well as generate free electricity. More information and monitoring can be found at www.IllinoisSolarSchools.org

Pick up NEED materials and conference supplies.  Continental breakfast will be served. 

 8:45 a.m.             Welcome, Introductions and IBEW Presentation

Review goals and objectives for the workshop. Learn more about the IBEW and programs available. 

 9:30 a.m.             Tour IBEW Facility

10:15 a.m.           Solar Panel Installation and Electrical Connection Demonstration

 Groups will rotate between two hands-on demonstrations of installation and wiring of solar panels.

 11:45 a.m.           Lunch

 12:30 p.m.          Solar Yard Light Disassembly Activity

Learn how to disassemble an inexpensive solar-powered yard light to obtain a solar panel, rechargeable battery and LED to use in your classroom.

 1:00 p.m.             Plug Loads and What Can My Solar Panel Power

These activities gather data and calculate energy use.

 2:00 p.m.             Collaboration

Small group discussions on how teachers are using their solar kits in the classroom.

 2:45 p.m.             Group Discussion on your solar curriculum “DOT” Do One Thing

Teachers breakdown their workshop experiences and decide on the one thing they plan to take back to do with their students in the classroom.

 3:30 p.m.             Paperwork  & Adjourn
