WHO SHOULD ATTEND? 

Teachers in grades K-12.  NEED’s energy curriculum is interdisciplinary.  Science teachers are encouraged to invite Language Arts, Math and/or Social Studies teachers to attend.

Introduction to NEED, Website, NEED Curriculum Matrix

 8:45 a.m.                      Step 1:  Science of Energy

Participants will learn about the forms of energy and energy transformations while using resources in the NEED Science of Energy kit and See, Run, Do activity.             

 11:15 a.m.                      Step 2:  Sources of Energy – Energy Roundup

This activity introduces participants to the major energy sources through a series of cooperative learning and critical thinking skills

12:45 p.m.                    Message from KY Department for Energy Development and Independence (DEDI)

 1:00 p.m.                      Introduction to NEED’s Coal Curriculum

  • All About Coal (Primary/Elementary)
  • Understanding Coal (Intermediate)
  • Exploring Coal (Secondary)

Participants will explore and participate in activities from the revised Coal Guides that include characteristics of coal, uses of coal, and career opportunities.

2:30 p.m.                      MAPS and Pacing Guides
Participants will work in grade level bands to review KCS standards.
