WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
FOR THE ATTENDEES:
DID YOU KNOW
Through NEED, ConocoPhillips funds energy education workshops for teachers in the U.S. We help teachers educate students on a wide range of topics including energy conservation and alternative energy sources. Over 95 percent of the workshop participants indicate that they will use the materials in their classrooms. To date, we have reached approximately 600,000 students through the program.
2017 Agenda
8:30 a.m. Welcome to the Workshop! Introduction to The NEED Project and Energy Bingo
Take a quick pre-workshop assessment.
9:00 a.m. The Science of Energy
Learn more about the forms of energy and energy transformations while experimenting with the Science of Energy kit. ConocoPhillips provides a Science of Energy Kit (for appropriate grade level) to all participating teachers.
11:00 a.m. Energy Enigma
After learning about the Science of Energy, participants begin studying the sources of energy. What are they? Where do they come from? How do we use each of the 10 sources of energy?
11:45 a.m. Lunch and ConocoPhillips Speaker
Following the lessons on energy sources, a local ConocoPhillips representative will speak about today’s and tomorrow’s energy challenges and the company’s activities in the local area.
12:45 p.m. Exploring Oil & Gas-Peak Oil Activity
These lessons and activities help students understand the exploration, production and use of the nation’s oil and natural gas.
This lesson explores the relationship between depth and pressure and the challenges engineers face trying to “produce” materials, or bring them to the surface.
This quick lesson allows participants to understand their home and school as a system and to better conserve energy resources.
3:15 p.m. Paperwork and Other Stuff: Complete Workshop Evaluations, Post-workshop assessment, receive substitute reimbursement forms, and complete Order Forms for Curriculum and Kits
