2016 Kentucky Energy Conference for Educators

The 2016 Kentucky Energy Conference for Educators brings together educators, from around the Commonwealth, who are passionate about bringing energy education to their classrooms.  In five interactive days, the conference provides teachers with the most up-to-date information on all aspects of energy including the science of energy, sources of energy, transportation, consumption, electricity, efficiency and environmental and economic impacts.

Participants will travel via tour bus, visiting energy sites in Central Kentucky.   Educators will receive the materials necessary to implement innovative hands-on energy units for their classrooms, multi-disciplinary teams, and after-school programs.

About the Tour

  • There is no cost for tour participants.  Funding is provided by the Kentucky Department for Energy Development and Independence.
  • The conference is not for the faint of heart - but has been noted as the most fun a teacher could have while learning.
  • We’ll meet in Winchester, KY on Sunday evening, June 12 for orientation.  On Monday morning, we’ll meet the Charter Bus at East Kentucky Power, where we will leave our vehicles.  We’ll return to Winchester on Friday afternoon.
  • Participants will receive NEED Curriculum resources.

 Conference Details

Participant sponsorship includes double occupancy lodging, meals, mileage reimbursement and curriculum materials.

Space is limited.  Registration Deadline is April 1.  Selected Participants will be notified via e-mail by April 15 and will receive a confirmation packet that must be returned by May 1.  A $100.00 REFUNDABLE deposit is required to confirm your participation.  Details will be provided in the confirmation packet.  A waiting list will be used to fill vacant spaces.

NEED has correlated their materials to the Disciplinary Core Ideas of the Next Generation Science Standards. NEED has also correlated all of their materials to The Common Core State Standards for English/Language Arts and Mathematics.  All materials are also correlated to each state’s individual science standards. Most files are in Excel format. NEED recommends downloading the file to your computer for use. Save resources, don't print!
