December 2018 RC Trainer Consult Group

"Family First" Legislation is Coming:

Is Your Agency Ready to Meet -- and Exceed -- the Trauma-Informed Care Mandate?

SENIOR AGENCY ADMINISTRATORS ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND

LUNCH INCLUDED

Presenters:  Staff of the Traumatic Stress Institute

Training Description

The federal "Family First Prevention Services Act" legislation was signed into law on February 9, 2018 and stipulates that providers and services must be trauma-informed.

This and other mandates demonstrate that embedding trauma-informed care (TIC) in your organization is no longer optional - it must be standard practice.

But, being trauma-informed is MORE than using Risking Connection. It involves changing policy and procedure, doing trauma screening, changing hiring practices, and instituting practices to facilitate staff self-care and well-being.

It also requires providers to demonstrate that they have met the trauma-informed standard.

The Traumatic Stress Institute, recognizing these realities, has developed a new Whole-Systems Change Model to Trauma-Informed Care which can prepare your agency to meet these new requirements and demonstrate (using hard data) that you have done so.

In this expanded Consult Group, we are urging RC Trainers to come with senior agency decision makers.  You will need help from your leaders to meet this challenge.

The goals of the consult will be to:
  1. Discuss implications of the "Family First" legislation with respect to TIC.
  2. Hear from organizational leaders about their triumphs and struggles implementing TIC.
  3. Reflect on your agency's progress implementing TIC.
  4. Learn about the new TSI Whole-System Change Model.
  5. Consider strategies for deepening your agency's commitment to TIC practices.
