David Sweetnam - Climate Change and Georgian Bay
David is the executive director of Georgian Bay Forever, a scientist and a Climate Reality leader trained by Vice President Al Gore. David will speak about the climate crisis and its impacts in Georgian Bay on water levels, water quality and ecosystems and discuss the actions needed to address these impacts and mitigate of causes of global warming.
Rick Esselment - Status of Septic Sytems in Georgian Bay
Rick is the President and Founder of ESSE Canada, a water resource management firm providing warranty, operation, maintenance, inspection and management services for drinking water and wastewater treatment clients in Ontario and Nova Scotia. He is a Past President of OOWA and has held a Director position with the Association for the past 8 years, serving as Chair on several committees. Rick also founded ATAO Resources, an investment company with equity positions in several water and wastewater businesses in Ontario. Rick has a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Bachelor of Applied Science in Public Health, Post-graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, and is a certified public health inspector. Rick will be speaking about the status of septic systems in Ontario and Georgian Bay.
Terry Rees - Seasonal Residents and Electricity Pricing Changes (Hydro)
Terry is the executive director of the Federation of Ontario Cottage Associations. FOCA represents more than 500 cottagers’ associations, which are made up mostly of volunteers. Terry will discuss seasonal electricity pricing changes.
Mike Brigham -Solar Installations, Ins and outs
Mike Brigham is the President and Co-Founder of SolarShare. SolarShare is a renewable energy co-operative that develops solar power projects across Ontario. Mike will provide information to help you decide whether you want to go off-grid or not?
Peter Brown - Impacts to Municipal Waste Water Systems
Peter Brown C.E.T., CRS, Director of Public Works for the Town of Parry Sound will discuss climate change impacts on waste water and drinking water treatment plants in Georgian Bay based on his experience in Parry Sound. Peter has almost 30 years of experience serving different municipalities in Georgian Bay, Muskoka, and the Algonquin area - most recently as the Director of Public Works for Parry Sound for the last 9 years. GBF got to know Peter through the project Divert and Capture: the fight to keep microplastics out of our water, which will measure microfibre plastics in the effluent of Parry Sound wastewater before and after 100 washing machine filters are installed. Peter has helped spread the word about the Town's collaboration with this project at the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative Annual Conference.
