WWOLF - April 30 at Fibonacci Farm

This event is full.

Email wwolf@centraloregonlocavore.org to get on the waitlist.

Willing Workers On Local Farms (WWOLF) is a community program of Central Oregon Locavore Non-Profit with the goal of lending a hand to small farmers while educating the community about the true nature of local food.

How It Works: You will meet the group at Fibonacci Farm at 9am. After a round of introductions, we will split into groups and get to work. We will finish our day with light lunch of soup and bread.

What to Expect: Good times, new friends, and a boots-on-the-ground education about local farming practices. We love dogs, but please leave them at home for this event. Our main task will be to prepare the farm for the upcoming growing season. There will be a wide variety of jobs for all ages and abilities.

What to Bring: Snacks and water, work gloves, closed-toe shoes, layers for the weather, and sunscreen. Soup and bread will be provided for lunch along with some produce from the farm, or bring your own! We will have a hand washing station and sanitizer for participant use.

About Fibonacci Farm: Fibonacci Farm is a no-till market farm specializing in organically grown vegetables and flowers. In their first year as a farm, farmers Aaron and Lauren leased 3/4 of an acre in Redmond and decided in their second year to lease an additional acre in NE Bend (where our WWOLF will be held). Their goal is to promote positive health and wellness to the community by providing nutrient dense food and locally grown flowers.

Their production methods focus on reducing emissions, building healthy soil structures, and growing organically. The farm uses cover crops and tarping for weed control and soil building, which is all done without the use of chemical pesticides or herbacides and only use organic fertilizers, composts, and pest management. For several years, the previous farmer in Bend, a soil scientist, had been growing vegetables organically and has made the soil very healthy and an absolute dream for growing food.
