The Medical Interpreter

The Medical Interpreter is the most complete 40-hour certificate program in the U.S.

It is a nationally recognized 40-hour certificate program in Health Care preparing interpreters to to work professionally in medical and healthcare related settings. The Program aligns with the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA) and the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC), and addresses in detail the process of National Certification for Medical Interpreters.

This training covers intepreting ethics and protocol, basic interpreting skills strategies and modes of interpreting, including steps for sight translation and note-taking techniques, intervention strategies, cultural mediation, basic interpreting in mental and behavioral health settings.

It provides an overview of the U.S. health care system, language access laws, enhanced Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) standards and the new patient-centered Standards by the Joint Commission, and the Affordable Care Act with regard to the Patient Navigation & Health Insurance Exchanges. The format is very interactive, with learning fostered through videos and the use of role plays, mini-scenarios and group exercises.
