Tour of Charter Steel

This month, the ASME Milwaukee Section is planning a tour of Charter Steel in Saukville on February 7th.  We will then have a presentation about developing an Energy Management System.   Two years ago Charter Steel did not have an energy management system or focus. Since then, they have developed an energy management system and certified the system to the ISO 50001 standard with the overall goal of reducing energy usage and costs. The presentation will be made by Katie Dimmer, an Energy Engineer at Charter Steel.

Katie Dimmer started her career working on environmental compliance at a fully integrated steel mill. She helped maintained an ISO14001 environmental management system and was the radiation safety officer for 6 years. Katie has been working in the energy field for 2 years and was an integral part in establishing an energy program at the steel mill. Katie worked to improve energy efficiency, increase energy awareness, and manage energy projects which resulted in energy savings within the first year of implementation. She was part of the team that lead the first steel mill in the US to ISO50001 certification. When Katie is not working on saving energy, she volunteers her time for a non-profit called Reflo. Katie was one of the founding members and the director of engineering for Reflo. Reflo’s mission is to become a leader in sustainable water use, green infrastructure and water management in urban environments. Reflo has designed and built cost effective and sustainable solutions for rainwater and greywater use throughout Milwaukee. Reflo received a Mayor’s Design Award and a MANDI (Milwaukee Awards for Neighbourhood Development Innovation) award for the work they did at the largest publicly-funded homeless shelter in Milwaukee. Katie now sits on the governance board for Reflo.
