This month, the ASME Milwaukee Section presents the story of Phillip the duck, who lost his feet and was given a second chance to walk.
Brandon and Alyssa Herbst, co-owners of Autumn Farm Sanctuary in Cedarburg, took Phillip in. Phillip, a Muscovy duck, was given prosthetic feet after losing his own to frostbite. The feet were made by an Oshkosh Middle School teacher.
Having a lifelong love for all creatures, Alyssa and Brandon Herbst founded Autumn Farm Sanctuary in 2014. Autumn Farm quickly became a home to many animals looking for refuge. The current rescued animals include horses, sheep, goats, turkeys, ducks, geese, and chickens. Autumn Farm's mission is not only to help farm animals, but to have an active role in education and raising awareness so that others may help too.
