presents
UHD - Unforseen Opportunities
by
Joe Kane

Transitions often provide opportunities well beyond what was originally envisioned.  As much as 1080p was a part of the original specification for HDTV, manufacturers were so certain it wouldn't move forward they didn't support it.  That, in part, kept one TV network from trying to broadcast scripted content in 1080p/23.976  which would have provided significant savings in data rates required for high quality pictures over 1080i or 720p at 59.94 Hz.

Selling the transition to UHD required it to be noticeably better than HD and not fall flat like 3D.  Moving on innovations necessary to justify UHD has opened the door to many possibilities, some of which seem as out of reach as 1080p in the HDTV transition.

Fresh out of CES, We'll spend the evening discussing fairly obvious opportunities that manufacturers are currently saying ‘no way’.

Will they be just as wrong as they were for not supporting 1080p?

Dinner will feature Organic Field Greens w/Bleu Cheese, candied Walnuts, and Rasberry Vinaigrette followed by a  choice of:

  • Prime Rib Au Jus served with Rice Pilaf
  • Fresh Roasted Salmon with dill butter sauce served with Rice Pilaf
  • Pasta Primavera (penne pasta with roasted vegetable marinara)

All meals include warm rolls and butter, coffee, tea and/or iced tea and for dessert Tiramisu.
