ATSC 3.0 - Overview and Transition Strategies
by
Joel Wilhite of Harmonic

Video entertainment in the home has changed in the nearly 20 years since the adoption of the ATSC 1.0 standard; from people watching scheduled broadcasts on their home TV to having the capability to watch nearly anything they want on any device at almost any time. The ATSC 3.0 next-generation broadcast standard addresses the need to accommodate these desires.

At the May 26th meeting of the Society of Television Engineers, Joel Wilhite, Marketing Manager for Broadcast and Satellite Solutions at Harmonic will start off by reviewing the technology being moved through the ATSC Candidate Standards process now and cover a number of the more compelling features in the 3.0 suite of standards to provide motivation for making this transition. The presentation will cover some of the stepping-stone techniques to consider when planning transitions in the broadcast plant and includes concepts necessary to support channel sharing. The presentation will also high-lite several compelling transmission system solutions never possible in 1.0 technology which will help broadcasters tailor their systems to fit the needs for their specific market requirements.

Dinner will feature a Caesar Salad followed by a  choice of:

  • Beef Stroganoff served with Flat Egg Noodles
  • Fresh Roasted Salmon with dill butter sauce served with Flat Egg Noodles
  • Pasta Primavera (penne pasta with roasted vegetable marinara)

All meals include warm rolls and butter, coffee, tea and/or iced tea and for dessert Tiramisu.
