Inter-RAI: Utilizing Data to Enhance Clinical Care 

Please join us for Inter-RAI: Utilizing Data to Enhance Clinical Care from 1:00 to 4:30 PM. Beverages and snacks will be served to those attending in-person at ECHA. To attend via tele/videoconference, register on the VC Scheduler. In the morning, Behavioural Supports Alberta Symposium 2015 will take place from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM. In order to attend the morning session, you must register here. Lunch will be served at noon following BSA Symposium 2015 in ECHA. Participants of the morning and afternoon sessions at Edmonton Clinic Health Academy are welcome to join us for lunch!

Guest speakers include:

Katherine Berg PhD, PT 

Dr. Berg is the Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences Institute, University of Toronto. She is a fellow with interRAI, an international team of academics, clinicians and other professionals committed to developing and using standardized assessments to improve the quality of care. She is a member of the interRAI Instrument and System Development (ISD) Committee and leads the post-acute care working group of the International Centre of Excellence in Acute Care (INEAC). Dr. Berg’s clinical care of expertise is in geriatrics. Her thesis work involved the development and validation of a Balance Scale widely used in rehabilitation and geriatrics. Her research interests include disability and fall prevention as well as health services research examining quality of care and outcomes.

Jeff Poss, PhD

Originally trained as an engineer, Jeff worked in rehabilitation technology for several years before returning to grad school, completing his PhD in Health Studies and Gerontology at the University of Waterloo in 2006. Working with Dr. John Hirdes since 2000, he has been engaged in work related to the interRAI standardized assessment instruments. His present position is Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Health Studies at the University of Waterloo. His research interests include case mix systems, quality indicators, outcome measures, and decision support algorithms as they can be applied to frail older adults in community and residential settings.

Eleanor Risling

Eleanor Risling has been integrally involved in the implementation and ongoing use of RAI 2.0 in the community sector since 2004. She is currently a member of the Seniors Health Clinical Compliance Team of Alberta Health Services, whose mandate is to transform the services for seniors and other recipients of continuing care through the enhancement of quality, safety, and sustainability of services. Eleanor’s current role as Director, Integrated RAI 2.0 Initiatives with Seniors Health affords her the opportunity to provide provincial leadership and oversight into the use of RAI 2.0 within all long-term care facilities in Alberta. She is directly responsible for policy development, quality improvement initiatives, data quality, and clinical informatics as it relates to the use of RAI 2.0 in Alberta.
