"Pediatric Oral Pathology"

Dr. Ken Tilashalski

University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry

Saturday February 20, 2021

Webinar -  2 CE Credits

Title:  Pediatric Oral Pathology

Children are different in so many ways!  And while many oddities are not age-specific there are many pathologic findings that are unique to kids or occur with greater frequency than in adults.  This course will highlight pediatric pathology including developmental disorders, tumors, infectious diseases, and bony lesions.  Special consideration will be given to the management of these entities in this vulnerable population.  Personal anecdotes, lessons learned, and an opportunity to ask questions will ensure that this material comes to life.

I.  Cases Highlighting the Differential Diagnosis Process

II.  Review of Pediatric Cases & Their Management

            A.  Infectious lesions
            B.  Developmental conditions
            C.  Bony and radiographic pathology
            D.  Conditions seen in newborns

 Course objectives:

  1. Develop a differential diagnosis of ulcerative lesions in kids
  2. Evaluate childhood oral lumps and bumps of the oral and head & neck region
  3. Choose whether a condition needs monitored, biopsied, or referred
  4. Formulate treatment strategies for oral lesions seen in children
  5. Generate an appropriate plan for radiographic pathology follow-up and/or treatment
  6. Differentiate appropriate prescription and non-prescription medications and their safety in children
