AIChE Pittsburgh's Nov 2015 Meeting
will be a tour of Covestro's Labs

Formerly known as Bayer MaterialScience, Covestro is a world-leading supplier of high-tech polymer materials used in automobiles, insulation, electronic devices and other applications. It has about 14,000 employees worldwide.

For many decades, the company’s office complex in Robinson served as the North American headquarters for Bayer MaterialScience. It will now serve as the North American base for Covestro.  In addition to managing Covestro’s business operations in this region, the Pittsburgh site also has laboratories for developing products and applications for current and new customers.

Join us at 5PM on November 17 in the lobby of Covestro Building 8 (directions below) for a tour of the company’s polycarbonates application-development facility, one of the many labs on site. In this lab, Covestro brings together the disciplines of plastics processing, engineering, and materials science in its search for new business opportunities for the company.

After the tour we will have a dinner at Bravo's in Robinson Twp. You may choose Lasagna Bolognese, Grilled Chicken Marsala, or Grilled Salmon Salad as your entre. Each dinner includes focaccia bread, salad, and your choice of coffee, tea, or soft drink.

Following dinner (around 7:30), Paul Bowman, Director of the Supply Chain Center of Expertise  at Covestro and a 31-year member of the AIChE, will provide an overview of Covestro, its products, and some of the different markets that Covestro serves.

Please join the Pittsburgh Section of the AIChE on November 17th for tour of the facility and an overview of Covestro's product and service offerings.  Feel free to bring a few guests, particularly if they are potential AIChE members.

Due to the size of the facility, we have a limit of 30 attendees.  We also need to close registration by Thursday Nov 12th so we can provide Covestro's Security Dept with our attendance list and company affiliations. (Please note that for this reason, walk-ins will not be allowed to attend the tour.) 

The tour will start promptly at 5pm. If you arrive late, you will not be able to join the tour.  The Parkway West can become very congested 4-5pm so please allow adequate time to arrive before 5pm.

Driving Directions from Pittsburgh:

If you use Google Maps, you can enter “1 Covestro Circle, Pittsburgh, PA 15205”, but it may not take you on the optimal route, and also “drops you off” in the middle of the office complex.

Turn-by-turn coming from the East

1. Take I-376 (Parkway West) westbound past the I-79 interchange.
2. Exit right at “Exit 61 – To Ridge Road”; get in left lane marked “To Ridge Road”.
3. Turn left at traffic light onto Campbells Run Road.
4. Get into left lane and turn at next traffic light left onto Ridge Road. This will take you over Parkway West.
5. Get into right lane.
6. At second traffic light, turn right onto Bayer Road.
7. Drove approximately ¼ mile. You will pass Industrial Scientific. Covestro Building 8 is the first building on the left in the Covestro-Bayer office complex. Park in the parking lot in front of Bldg 8 (the side facing Bayer Road).
8. The main lobby of Bldg 8 faces Bayer Road. We will be waiting for you in the lobby.

1. Take I-376 (Parkway West) eastbound.
2. Exit right at “Exit 61 – Ridge Road”
3. Turn right at traffic light onto Ridge Road.
4.  At next traffic light, turn right onto Bayer Road.
