Many physician practices are expected to experience in 2014 (and beyond) greater accounts receivables and patient debt due to high ACA deductibles on exchange insurance plans. Most doctor visits will be subject to these high deductibles.
Patients will feel “insured” but will need to pay for most doctor visits. Some may not understand. Some may not pay. Enrollment on the exchange plans will likely increase in coming years as many small businesses make an economic decision to pay penalties rather than provide insurance. There are practical, legal steps that physician practices can take to anticipate these circumstances and reduce the likelihood of unhappy patients and/or greater uncollectible accounts.
This talk will explore the problem and practical solutions, including:
· Educating patients to minimize misunderstandings
· Training staff to deal with the new payment issues
· Obtaining payer fee schedules (and why you must)
· Tips on getting paid
