Join us for the 16th annual Dental Health Alumni Day featuring Dianne Watterson, RDH, MBA on May 8, 2015. This course will include two sessions. The morning session will be "Prevention v.s Prosecution- Patient Care Issues in Dentistry" and the afternoon session is "Ten Things you Shoud Never Say to Patients: Communication Tools you Need".

This seminar is intended for all graduates of LCCC's Dental Assisting, EFDA and Dental Hygiene Programs. However, all medical professionals, including dentists and staff members are encouraged to attend.

Prevention vs. Prosecution - Patient Care Issues in Dentistry

The practice of dentistry and dental hygiene involves adhering to strict standards of care. This course examines the best methods for producing desirable results to avoid injury. Clinical standards are reflected in various case histories. Topics include the importance of open communication between clinician and patient; Informed consent and informed refusal and how to handle patient refusal of recommended care.

Ten Things You Should Never Say to Patients:
Communication Tools You Need

Good communication skills are vitally important in patient care issues. Far more than the words we speak, this seminar examines all facets of communication with patients. Communicating one-on-one about patient care issues, barriers to communication, developing a superb chairside manner, reducing disappointments, verbal and non-verbal communication, using effective analogies to assist patient understanding in discussions about dentistry, and tips on improving the clinician's own communication skills will be addressed.
