Agape is a Greek word meaning "love" - an active love that isn't satisfied serving only itself, but instead fulfills its purpose in reaching out and helping others. While AGAPE of North Alabama is a state-licensed agency, it is also a family…a family that reaches out with compassion to help others in need!

Throughout its history, AGAPE has helped literally thousands of children by providing short or        long-term foster care and, whenever opportunity presented itself, adoption for needy children.

AGAPE of North Alabama, Inc., a non-profit child-placing agency headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama, has been in operation since 1969. During that time, AGAPE has provided the highest level of adoption and foster care services to maternity clients, infants and children, and families in the twenty-two northern counties of the state.

Services AGAPE provides include:

Foster Care
AGAPE is committed to finding homes for children who are vulnerable to abuse, neglect, and maltreatment. We provide Alabama's foster children with a loving, Christian home where they can experience peace and stability while working toward permanency. Over the years, hundreds of foster parents working with AGAPE have provided shelter and care, along with love, stability and security for the children placed in their care. Today, our foster parents continue to be dedicated, trained and supported by full-time foster care professionals who have access to a full range of services.

Adoption
AGAPE has an established adoption program through our work with maternity clients and Alabama's Department of Human Resources. Each year, AGAPE find forever homes for children through private, infant, and state adoptions.

Home Study Services
AGAPE is happy to offer both domestic and international home study services for Alabama adoptive applicants who are utilizing other placement agencies. We are also authorized to conduct home studies for Hague Convention countries through our relationship with Villa Hope International Adoptions in Birmingham, AL.

Maternity Assistance
AGAPE provides assistance for maternity clients wishing to place their child up for adoption. We help to match birth families with adoptive families to ensure the best adoption experience possible.

Finally, during the past 42 years, AGAPE has also assisted individuals and families through thousands  of hours of Christian-based counseling by licensed male and female counselors. From Day One,  their goal has been to improve the quality of life for those needing help. This has been as true for the recently-widowed, struggling with grief, as it is for the adoptive family, dealing with an attachment disorder - as true for a teen facing identity problems as it has been for the couple wanting to communicate on a deeper level.

Today - as throughout its history - AGAPE is administered by a full staff of trained professionals who strive for a high degree of excellence.
