Take the myth and stress out of hardcover bookmaking! In this beginner’s course, we’ll explore making two hardcover books, learning the step-by-step process to create artist books, journals and sketchbooks with ease. Using high-quality materials, simple skills and highly personalized techniques, artists will create two professionally-bound books from scratch—and learning skills to introduce book arts into your art-making practice. All levels welcome. No experience necessary.Techniques:
• All the ins-and-outs of bookmaking to create two different hardcover book blanks; perfect for sketchbooks, journals, artist books, and scrapbooks.
• Paper selection and preparation, making contemporary book cloth, perfecting binding techniques and learning a variety of skills to translate to their own art-making practice.
Students will need to bring the following:
- Two half-yards of lightweight fabric (one half-yard per book)
- 2 sheets (or more) decorative paper (minimum size 12x18”—avoid scrapbook papers, wrapping papers and wallpaper).
