Program Description:

This program will equip participants to identify, evaluate and treat South Asian patients with, and at risk for cardiovascular disease. In addition, participants will learn about culturally appropriate diet and exercise recommendations and under-stand the role of genetics and new risk factors to explain the heightened risk.

Program Objectives:

At the completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify, evaluate and treat South Asian patients with, and at risk for cardiovascular disease
  • Examine the role of genetics and new risk factors to explain the excess burden of risk in the South Asian population
  • Describe appropriate diet and exercise patterns for South Asians
  • Incorporate lessons learned from South Asia and North America to improve patient care in Canada
  • Apply the latest advances in the management of dyslipidemia and diabetes
