Men's Emmaus Retreat 2017

Holy Family Emmaus Retreat - Men 2016

“If today you hear His voice, harden not your heart. . .”

We invite you to join us for the Emmaus Journey.

The Holy Family Emmaus Retreat offers a unique opportunity to pray and reflect upon your individual relationship with Jesus.  Wherever one may be on their faith walk, each rests at a different stage of the Journey but never alone. Jesus is always with us.  He accompanies our walk at every step.

The Emmaus Retreat or “Walk to Emmaus” is drawn from the Gospel of Luke 24:13–35 describing the encounter by two disciples with our Risen Lord.  Jesus walked with them until the end of their journey at which time, in the breaking of bread, their eyes were opened and they truly recognized Him.

Emmaus originated under Catholic authorship and enjoys Diocesan approval. It is also open to fellow Christians. Since its introduction at Holy Family in the late 1990’s we have welcomed a number of non-Catholic Christians to attend the retreat.  For many who have joined us it has proven to be extraordinarily rewarding.  For some the Emmaus Walk has been a life-changing spiritual experience.

The retreat begins at the San Pedro Diocesan Center on Friday evening and ends on Sunday afternoon. It completes in Eucharistic Celebration at Holy Family’s 6 PM Sunday Mass.  All meals, accommodations, and retreat materials are included in the registration fee.  Registrations are limited and for this 22nd Holy Family Men’s Emmaus encouraged to be submitted early.

“Now that very same day, two disciples were on their way to a village called Emmaus…

Jesus approached and began to walk along with them. . .”

Did You Know . . .

That the #1 reason many people hesitate attending an Emmaus retreat is FEAR?  Fear of the unknown can prevent making a commitment to participate in this  unique parish offering. You are not alone. Just remember Jesus’ counsel to His disciples:

“Let not your heart be troubled…..”

The Emmaus retreat is designed to help men and women grow in faith and relationship with Our Lord. Sometimes fear and uncertainty can delay the first step in that process.

Here are a few common misconceptions:

  • I will be forced to do things that I don’t want to do.
  • I might be challenged to admit how little I know about my faith.
  • I am not worthy to go on a retreat.
  • Retreats are only for really religious people.
  • I am not ready to go on retreat.
  • I am going to be judged if I go on retreat.

Nearly 2000 men and women have attended a Holy Family Emmaus since 1998.  Each retreat offers a unique opportunity to experience spiritual growth.  Here are some common responses that many men have shared following their return:

  • “I should have done this a long time ago”.
  • “I feel so foolish that I was actually afraid to go”.
  • “I should have listened to my wife when she first suggested that I attend”.
  • “I have never felt as close to Jesus as I did while on my Emmaus walk”.
  • “My family and friends can’t believe the difference this has made in my life”.
  • “I have 23 new brothers in Christ that I never had before”.
  • “I met so many wonderful people.  My faith has really come alive”.

The Emmaus Retreat provides a welcoming environment in which to deepen a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus. Trust His Love. Follow Him. Take the first step.

But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying,

“Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” – Matthew 14:27
