Harvest Tour de Vin

BIG, BOLD, Sophisticated with a Hint of Fun...the Harvest Tour de Vin is the ONLY authentic, indulgent and educational tour of the Paso Robles wine region taking place durin gthe most exciting time of the year in wine country:  CRUSH!

Day 1

5:30pm

A Taste of Terroir at Pomar Junction Vineayrd & Winery – Your journey through the Paso Robles wine region begins with a Friday evening welcome reception that features a vineyard tour and berry sampling at the Pomar Junction Vineyards with owner/grower, Dana Merrill. You’ll get to taste how the berries from varietals differ and learn how terroir influences the wine your drink. You’ll also have an opportunity to taste Pomar Junction’s estate wines while enjoying light appetizers.

Day 2 - Monday, September 23, 2013

Great wines begin in the vineyard. On Day 2 of the Harvest Tour de Vin, you'll tour a variety of beautiful Westside Paso Robles' vineyards and wineries while seeing, learning and tasting about the Paso Robles wine producing region.

9 am

Harvest 101 at Westside Ranch – Day 2 kicks off with a tour of the beautiful Westside Ranch with vineyard manager and viticulturist, Lowell J. Zelinski, Ph.D. You’ll find out what decisions are made during the grape harvest process, enjoy a stroll through the vineyard and have a chance to taste some of the award-winning wines produced from the grapes of the vineyard with owner/grower Andrea Huber.

10:15 am

Paso from Past to Present (Halter Ranch Winery) –  On your next stop, you’ll learn some of the history of the Paso Robles’ wine region while touring and tasting at the Halter Ranch Winery. Set on the grounds of a historical ranch, you’ll get a glimpse of the winery crew at work at their new, state-of-the-art production facility then meander through the underground caves.

Lunch Under the Oaks (Halter Ranch Winery) – Enjoy a gourmet wine country picnic lunch prepared by Chef Jeffry Wiesinger under the shady oaks of the Halter Ranch Winery

Sustaining the Wine Region (Tablas Creek Vineayrd & Winery) -- Sustainable wine grape growing has become the norm for most Paso Robles vineyards but has been perfected at Tablas Creek. As you stroll through the vineyard, you’ll learn the techniques used by the winery to sustain the vineyard and see the animals and other wildlife that is part of the natural process. The tour concludes with a drafting demonstration and a white Rhone varietal tasting with owner Jason Haas or winemaker Neil Collins.

Perfect Endings (Roxo Port Cellars) – No wine experience is complete without dessert! A stop at Roxo Port Cellars to find out how ports are made with owner/winemaker Jeff Roxo will be the perfecting ending to a tour of the Westside of the Paso Robles wine region.

Afternoon Break - Return to Hotel – enjoy a spa treatment, stroll downtown, relax and get ready for Harvest Ball

Winemaker Harvest Ball – Dine al fresco under the stars at a beautiful Paso Robles Vineyard & Winery featuring the creative culinary talent of Chef Thomas Drahos of Avant-Garde Experience and live music.

 10:00 am        Berry-to-Bottle (Stillwater Vineayrds & Winery) – Day 3 takes you to the eastside of Paso Robles wine country where you'll learn how boutique wines are made with owner/grower/winemaker Paul Hoover.

Pairing Wine & Food (Cass Vineyards & Winery) – Find out how Cass Winery Chef Jacob Lovejoy pairs the Cass Rhone-style wines with wine country cuisine at this live cooking demonstration in the vineyard.

Winemaking 101 (Robert Hall Vineyard & Winery) – Hear and see how wine is made on a large scale with winemaker Don Brady at the Robert Hall Winery. This tour starts on the crush pad where you'll see winemaking in action then through the fermentation room and concludes with a tour of the underground caves.

 3:00 pm Art of Blending Wine (First Crush Cellars) – Learn about the Art of Blending wine. The last phase of winemaking before bottling is the most fascinating and artistic. You’ll learn about and get to try your hand at the artistic side of winemaking at First Crush Cellars. When you’re done, you’ll get to taste the winemaker’s blend from the same grapes.
 4:30 pm Say Cheese! (Vivant Fine Cheeses at First Crush Cellars) – Enjoy artisinal cheeses paired with a variety of Paso Robles' wines with Paso's favorite cheese purveyor, Danika Gordon from Vivant Fine Cheeses.
