Piper Gilles, the 2014 Four Continents, Skate Canada and Trophée Éric Bompard ice dance silver medalist and a two-time Canadian national medalist, assumed the role of ONBIDA’s spokesperson, effective January 1, 2015.
Piper, who coped with dyslexia throughout her elementary and high school years, has not only surpassed the barriers of the language-based reading difficulty and currently pursues a higher education at Ryerson University, she has also demonstrated strength and perseverance to become one of the top ice dancers internationally. Understanding the challenges she faced growing up with dyslexia, Piper now wants to work with ONBIDA in its promotion of dyslexia awareness and education. Piper will share her story with the public at the Right to Read Night event!
All funds raised will go towards the Oliver Martin Memorial Trust Fund Assessment Scholarship in order to faciliate early identification and intervention for those who struggle to learn to read!
