Register Now!Are you a blind or visually impaired student heading off to college soon and wondering:

  • How will I find my way around?
  • How will I make friends?
  • Will my professors make things accessible for me?
  • Are there fun things I can do at school?
  • What is it like to have a roommate?
  • What techology should I have?
  • How will I manage all of the courses and homework?

Imagine having a blind sibling or good friend that has faced the stress and fear of heading off to college, created systems and strategies to have incredible success and tons of fun, and  share all of it with you, guiding you so YOU succeed too.  Michael Smedley, Jr is THAT guide for you!

Michael Smedley, Jr is heading into his senior year at Penn State University, a very large Division 1 school in State College, PA - three hours away from his home.  He started his college career at Belmont University in Nashville - 1000 miles away from home - and transferred to PSU for bigger academic  opportunities and more social experiences (he's addicted to attending those big PSU football games!)

Michael has a thriving social life at school (he formed a band and released an album at Belmont U), academic success with a massive courseload (Presidents's Award, PSU) and manages traveling independently through campus and the town of State College from his apartment off campus.

Michael will do a rapid-fire info download for participants, sharing stories of campus life, friends, professors, and more.  He will discuss the many strategies and tools he uses as well as give you tips on all the things you can do BEFORE campus move in day to set yourself up for success.  A few of the areas Michael will cover:

  • Finding, making and keeping friends at school
  • Communicating with professors
  • Registering with the Disabilities Office
  • Setting up your schedule and environment for success
  • Getting to know your campus
  • Navigating the college social scene
  • Best apps for blind/VI students
  • Living on and off campus

And so much more!

Session is 60 minutes and includes a Q&A session.
