GOA SUPER CE
An Education Event for OD's, PARAOPTOMETRICS & Staff 

The Georgia Optometric Association invites all Optometrists, Paraopometrics and Staff to join them for SUPER CE, a special continuing education event on Saturday, January 30, 2016. This SUPER CE Meeting, will be held in a convenient central location, The Georgia International Convention Center (GICC) in College Park, GA (adjacent to Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport). 

For the Optometrists we will be offering a total of nine (9) hours of Continuing Education (8 COPE Approved hours and 1 hour of Non COPE Jurisprudence). Scheduled to lecture and headline our OD CE track are Dr. Leo Semes and Dr. Walt Whitley. 

For the Paraoptometric/Staff continuing education track we will be offering a total of eight (8) hours of CE that is ABO and/or NCLE Approved for those needing credit. Scheduled to lecture and headline this track are, 2013 Optician of the Year (Optician Assoc. of GA), Carol J. Brown, MMSc and 2014 Practitioner of the Year (GPLI/Contact Lens Manufacturer's Assoc.) Michael A. Ward, MMSc. 

Registration for this meeting is open to all Optometrists, Paraoptometrics, Opticians and Staff  that wish to attend. 

As always we are pleased to announce the following incentive for all those Optometrists that are GOA PAC Platinum and Fair Share Contributors:

The retina can manifests local and systemic insults. These are related to abnormalities of the vitreous and secondary to infection. This course will highlight selected disruptions of the posterior pole and discuss their management.

This course shall discuss patient issues that may cause erroneous fabrication and incorrect delivery of eyewear. We shall address methods that shall minimize patient anticipation, maximize expectation, and facilitate dispensing. Moreover, through case examples, we shall have attendee participation in possible alternative solutions and/or corrective measures for problems that have risen.

Using a series of cases, this course will challenge the audience to make management decisions with increasingly more information. The presenters will offer real-life cases (de-identified) that present every-day situations in glaucoma and related optic disc changes.

This course will discuss the myriad of issues that besieges the unhappy ophthalmic customer/patient. We will review how to handle a remake, a return, avoiding possible confusion in sales and delivery, how to handle an angry customer and how to overcome dissatisfaction.

Using case examples, this course will review commonly prescribed oral medications used for various ocular infections, inflammatory conditions and pain. Common side effects of oral medications will be discussed.

We have more bacterial cells in our bodies than human cells.  Microbes educate our immune system and help to protect us. However, if they get into the wrong place ( eg gut bacteria in the eye) they can cause serious pathology.  This course will review basic ocular microbiology, including normal ocular flora, ocular defense mechanisms and inflammatory processes will also be presented. Techniques for infection prevention and control will be discussed.
