24th Annual Day of Caring, Wednesday, September 16, 2015

United Way of Greater Nashua’s 24th Annual Day of Caring, which links hundreds of people in Southern New Hampshire with non-profit health and human service agencies that provide volunteer opportunities, has been set for Wednesday, September 16, 2015. Now is the time to start thinking about how eager and able adult  volunteers can help your organization on Day of Caring.

In Greater Nashua, we are anticipating more than 300 volunteers who are looking for a way "to give back to the community," so multiple projects from agencies are welcome.

Preparing for arrival of volunteers

Volunteers will meet and check-in for a tailgate celebration breakfast at 7:00AM at the Church. Their expected arrival time to their assignment is no later than 8:45 AM. Please ensure that your project site coordinator is at the pre-determined location no later than 8:40 AM and is prepared to provide a brief orientation about your agency before volunteers begin their work. A United Way Ambassador will arrive at your site later in the morning, or at lunch time to insure that your project is going as planned.
We encourage you to begin your project at 9:00 AM; however, if you must delay the starting time, be sure to note it on the registration form.

Registering your project

You will register each project online at the link provided below by filling out all the details. Incomplete applications will not be accepted by the system so please make sure all the fields are complete.

All the required documents, contacts, and follow-up information will be shared online.

What is a project?

1 Project = 1 Location = ALL the tasks at that location.

Be sure to combine ALL the tasks at one location as 1 project (same as last year). Please estimate your requested number of volunteers according to ALL the tasks and 6 hours of work that you have for each one of them. You may request 2-20 volunteers.

What can I get done?

Jobs that have been done in the past involve interacting with others (children and elderly), painting, landscaping, cleaning agency vehicles, sorting donations, office work (filing and stuffing envelopes),  preparing for fundraising events, building fences, minor electrical work, carpentry, shelving, building handicapped ramps, building walls, power washing and cleaning buildings (inside and out), etc.

Caution:

In order for us to match the volunteers most suitable for your requested tasks, it is absolutely necessary that you give us a precise description of ALL the tasks included in a project. For example, if your project consists of carpentry and painting, but you fail to list carpentry on the registration form, you may end up with a volunteer not having the skills or willingness for the assigned work. We count on you to make this a great experience for your volunteers so that they return next year.

How do I participate?

Make sure you register your projects online by clicking on the link below. Please use this registration form for your FIRST project ONLY. If there are other tasks at a different location, you will have to register that separately as another project by filling out another registration form online. Contact us if you need to register more than 1 project and we shall send you instructions on how to do that.

Tailgate Breakfast

All volunteers are expected to check in at the St. Phillip Greek Orthodox Church, 500 West Hollis Street, Nashua at 7:00am.  We will be hosting a fun, tailgate inspired breakfast rally before volunteers begin their assignments.

Agency representatives are encouraged  to attend this event!

Deadline:

The registration deadline is Friday, July 24, 2015

If you have questions regarding the Day of Caring, please contact Deb Tighe at 603-864-0204.

We look forward to your participation!
