SFP SCIENCE ACADEMY provides students with a concentrated overview of the process of conducting authentic science research. Students will spend five days exclusively engaged in the scientific method. They will learn the skills needed to conduct a literature search, discover the facts about a specific research area in science, and then use what is already known about the topic to formulate an objective and design a procedure. This will be followed by data collection and analysis, ultimately allowing them to draw a conclusion from their results. The week will culminate with a poster session that will simulate a professional research symposium.  The ultimate goal is for the children to find a way to survive on another planet.   Throughout the week, they will be touching on astronomy, chemistry, biology, genetics, and environmental science.  Hopefully be weeks end, they will feel more knowledgeable about these different disciplines while also enjoying the experience.
