Tales from an Afghan Village - An Afternoon in a Summer Garden

 Join the local (Victoria) chapter of CW4WAfghan in the splendor of a summer garden at the beautiful Seasons Above the Bay Guest Suites and B&B  in Cowichan Bay.  

Our garden party will feature delectable treats, Teafarm tea, an Afghan market with jewelry and handcrafted items available for purchase, and an opportunity to hear stories from an Afghan village, as told by committed women, working there to make a difference in the lives of women and children.

100% of all funds collected will go to support the educational programs of CW4WA, Canadian Women For Women in Afghanistan, a non profit organization.

Cost (including refreshments): $25 paid at the door. (We accept cash, cheque or credit card.)

 Ms. Marnie Gustavson is the Executive Director of PARSA, an  international Non-profit based in Kabul, Afghanistan, where she  resided for five years of her childhood. Marnie creates new  approaches to social problems using humanity’s creativity,  resilience, and ability. Introduction by DR. LAURYN OATES

 Dr. Lauryn Oates is a Canadian human rights activist whose work  concentrates on international development, women’s rights, and    education in conflict zones. She has worked throughout the developing  world but particularly in Afghanistan, advocating for women's rights. It  was in 1996 that, at age 14, Lauryn read a newspaper article describing  the new regime in Afghanistan called the Taliban, and their treatment of  women and girls. She wrote up a petition demanding that the world  respond to the Taliban’s misogynist policies, and has continued this  work ever since, working in close partnership with a variety of Afghan  women’s organizations and international charities. She is a fierce  proponent of the universalism of human rights, and speaks to this  position frequently in the Canadian and international media.

 She is the founder of the Vancouver (1999) and Montreal (2001)  chapters of Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (CW4WAfghan) and is currently CW4WAfghan's Projects Director, managing a teacher education program and other education projects in Afghanistan. Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (CW4WAfghan.ca) is a member-based, not-for-profit organization founded in 1996 with thirteen volunteer chapters across Canada. The goals are to advance education and educational opportunities for Afghan women and their families.
