Young children learn about the world and their place in it through exactly the same processes used by mathematicians, scientists and engineers!  Exploring, experimenting, reflecting, making, acting and talking about the way things are made and how they work - these are the foundations for students’ experiences in science, technology, engineering and math, the STEM subjects currently being emphasized in our schools and universities.

Adding the “Arts” to STEM, we’ll go full STEAM ahead, exploring everything from how numbers work, how colors are made, how the wonders of the natural world happen and much more!  As always, we will use all art forms – music, dance, theater and the visual arts – and a rich array of the best children's books, including, this year, nonfiction for the very young.

Activities shared will not only encourage young scientists and mathematicians but will show how arts integration strategies also build language and expression in learners of all ages and abilities. Participants will take away sample lessons as well as many user-friendly ways to link the arts and STEM learning. Particular attention will be given to meeting the needs of children with developmental and learning differences.

Presented by: The Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire and VSA New Hampshire as part of our ongoing Arts in Inclusive Learning collaboration, provided through a contract with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Teaching artist presenters include Deborah Stuart, Kelly Doremus Stuart, Will Cabell, Richard Moses and Jeanne Limmer. Our thanks to Plymouth Elementary School and The Goddard School for hosting.

Cost & Scholarships: Cost for the day is $40 (Derry) / $35 (Plymouth) and includes light morning snacks (please bring your own lunch) and Professional Development CEUs. Reduced rates are available for additional registrants from a single organization, library, preschool, or child-care center and for parents, grandparents and students (parent/grandparent rate doesn't include professional development credits).  Partial scholarships are available for all those who need them; please inquire if you would like to attend but cannot afford the fee.

A discounted rate is also available for Arts Alliance members and participants from member organizations or sites; we sincerely appreciate your membership support! You can join the Arts Alliance online here.

How to register: You can register online (above) or download a registration form for Plymouth or Derry and mail it with a check to: AANNH, HC64 Box 223, Wonalancet NH 03897.  Please note: Space is limited; we cannot hold your space without payment, so payment must be received one week prior to each conference.
