The Hoop Suite Project is a spoken-word rap opera created through a collaboration between one of Boston’s top performing dance and theater companies, Anna Myer and Dancers, and youth from one of the city’s toughest public housing developments.

Hoop Suite melds classical music and modern dance with spoken word, rap, and hip-hop movement and incorporates inner-city teen artists, encouraging them to explore dance, poetry and behind-the-scenes technical work in a professional setting.  In addition to building confidence in youth, the performance aspect of this project is built on a long-term educational plan designed to engender literacy, responsibility and opportunity.

The New Hampshire Hoop Suite Project brings 25 performers to the stage; the project has also included a series of fall poetry and dance workshops for high-school students, some of whom will share their work at the beginning of the evening. The evening performances are suitable for children ages 10 and older.

We are grateful for the support of the New England Foundation for the Arts' Expeditions Program and the Gary Millen Foundation, and thankful to our partners,  the North American Family Institute, the Holderness School, Kennett High School and Jeanne Limmer Dance Center
