Estate & Tax Planning for

Same-Gender Couples

r

We are excited to announce two outstanding speakers for our October 21st meeting:

SPEAKERS: Rosemary Ireland, a CPA who frequently assists non-traditional families and LGBTQ clients, will review the current law and use case studies to demonstrate how it affects various income tax issues for same-sex couples who might be married, including filing status, income and deduction items, retirement accounts, and filing when divorce isn’t possible.

Justin Ervin, an estate planning attorney who frequently assists non-traditional families and LGBTQ clients, will bring us up to speed on the current state of the law with regard to marriage equality and help practitioners to understand how current affairs affect inheritance and property succession, proxy decision-making, and estate and gift tax issues, as well as share some “soft skills” for counseling and advising LGBTQ clients.

TOPIC: Marriage equality is evolving at blazing speeds, so it’s important to keep up-to-date on how the current crazy quilt of laws could affect your clients who were married in a jurisdiction that recognizes marriage equality but live in a jurisdiction that does not.

Practitioners will take away an understanding of the various estate planning and tax issues that confront non-traditional families, including married same-gender couples, unmarried couples, and LGBTQ individuals, as well as an understanding of how best to advise and counsel such clients.

*Approved for 2 hours of Life CE, CPE, CFP and applied for 2 hours of CLE.

COST:  Courses are FREE to members!  Guests are free for the first visit if they are eligible for membership.  There is a fee of $35 for breakfast and CE if it is the second visit.

Registration Deadline:  October 17, 2014.
