Garden Club of Virginia

The Garden Club of Virginia is an active association of forty-seven garden clubs, whose members collectively form a group of more than 3,300 civic leaders from around the Commonwealth.

The Garden Club of Virginia exists to celebrate the beauty of the land, to conserve the gifts of nature and to challenge future generations to build on this heritage. Our mission is to restore historic gardens and landscapes, conserve Virginia’s natural resources, inspire a love of gardening and provide education for our members and the general public.

The Conservation and Beautification Committee presents a festival of short films on various issues, with a strong emphasis on water. Topics include:

* Uranium
* Fracking
* Atlantic Coast Pipeline
* The Great Yard Cleanup
* LIfe Cycle of a Plastic Bag
* Water Saving TIps
* Selections from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation

We conclude with the inspiring film, “Rappahannock: The Story of an Historic and Beautiful River and its People.” This film describes the history and the reclamation of the river from one of pollution to one of beauty.

Chris Miller, President of the Piedmont Environmental Council, will be our moderator and guide for the day. He will elaborate on the issues presented in the films, and he will give us the current status on transmission lines, pipelines and view sheds.

The Elizabeth Cabell Dugdale Award for Conservation will be presented.
