Rasmussen Reptiles store field trip

Cambodian boy has a 14 foot pet Burmese PythonExploring Families has organized another STEM* focused field trip.

Your whole family will be thrilled with all the animals we'll learn about at Rasmussen Reptiles store, including reptiles, amphibians, marsupials, erinaceinae mammals, and much more! We'll get to view all stages of animal life cycles since the store has incubators for the soon-to-be hatched, young animals, and adults. Hopefully some creatures will be hatching while we are there! Our presenter will be taking many of their animals out of their cages so that we can touch and hold them! Don't forget your camera!

Did you know . . .

  • Monitor lizards are eaten in parts of southern India and Malaysia.
  • Chameleons come in a variety of colors, including pink, blue, red, orange, turquoise, yellow, and green!
  • Hedgehogs feed on insects, snails, frogs, toads, snakes, bird eggs, carrion, mushrooms, grass roots, berries, melons, and watermelons.
  • Sugar gliders are highly social animals that engage in social grooming, which in addition to improving hygiene and health, helps bond the colony and establish group identity.
  • Bearded dragons are a popular pet among children, because of their friendly and calm nature, along with the relative ease of caring for them.
  • In the wild, Burmese pythons grow to 12 feet long.
  • Female tortoises dig nesting burrows in which they lay from one to 30 eggs. The eggs are left unattended, and depending on the species, take from 60 to 120 days to incubate.
  • Most geckos cannot blink. They use their long tongues to clean their eyes and keep them dust-free.
  • Iguana possess a dewlap, a row of spines running down their backs to their tails, and a third "eye" on their heads.

Rasmussen Reptiles is charging us a fee for this field trip since they are bringing in extra staff just for our science lesson.

The price is $3 per child, ages 2-17.

Everyone else is free.

Payment is required in advance via Paypal or check. There is no "Pay at the Door." Your spots with our group are saved when payment is received. Details about the two payment options are on the Registration page (when you click on the "Register Now" button below.)

For example, if a parent is going to the reptile field trip with her 3 kids, she would register herself under the "Fee" section. She would select the button next to “Event fee for adults 18+, no charge” Then under "Additional People Information," she would select "3" in the drop down box. Her "Payment Summary" would be "Total $9."

Rasmussen Reptiles recently brought a few reptiles to the Mobius Science Center. Read all about it here in the Spokesman Review newspaper.
