"Impact of the March 2018 visa changes on pathways"

Presenter:

Cian Manton - Director, Temporary Visa Programs (WA),       Department of Home Affairs

This professional development workshop will provide an opportunity for professionals working with international students to better understand how recent visa changes will impact on international students and the pathways to permanent residency.

The workshop will provide an insight into:

-           Why Australian visa rules are changing

-           How the visa rule changes will impact on subclass visas; 457, 186, 187 and 485

-           The introduction of the temporary skills shortage (TSS) visa

-           Student (subclass 500) visas:

o    The Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) criterion and why it was introduced.

            o    How GTE is assessed

o    Why some student visas are granted same day (risk matrix implications)

-           How the changes impact on current visa holders

Aside from gaining knowledge, new staff will have a chance to network with likeminded individuals from a variety of institutions.
