"Introduction to International Education Compliance  and Regulation"

This workshop is ideal for: Front counter and student support staff from all sectors, staff new to international education, and experienced professionals wanting an update on the key international compliance requirements.

Education providers enrolling holders of Australian Student Visas have significant compliance obligations. This workshop will provide participants with a general overview of the key legislative and regulatory requirements affecting education providers.

The content is introductory with a focus on the roles of different regulators, the Education Services for Overseas Students Act (2000) and in particular the 11 Standards of Part D new ESOS National Code 2018.  

About the Presenter:  

Simon has worked in the education sector in Australia and overseas for nearly 20 years.  Since 2005 he has held leadership roles in all areas of international education at Edith Cowan University including: recruitment, admissions, compliance & quality assurance, Learning Abroad (global student mobility) and international relations & academic partnerships.

In 2005 he established the WA Universities ESOS Reference Group which continues to meet regularly to discuss issues affecting international education and has over 20 active members from industry regulators and the five WA Universities.

In 2011, in recognition of his contributions to international education, Simon was awarded the inaugural Australian Universities International Directors Forum ‘Tracey McCabe Fellowship’.

In 2012, Simon received the Vice-Chancellor’s staff award for sustained contributions to internationalisation at ECU.

Simon has led international education discussions and industry improvements through the delivery of conference papers, presentations and workshops on International compliance, quality assurance and best practice to colleagues across all sectors. 

He is Deputy Convenor of the IEAA Learning Abroad Network and Vice President of the Council for International Students of Western Australia.
